how to be a good landlord

poster:how to do,from:how to do

If you want to be a good landlord, one important thing to do is to become familiar with your rights and responsibilities under your state and local landlord-tenant laws.

Just like any other job, if you want to be a good landlord you are going to have to put in a bit of time.  The fact of the matter is that if you want to be a success and make money you will have to be a good landlord; there is no two ways about it. Unfortunately, there are many people who are not good landlords, and end up making it worse off on everybody else.  So instead of being one of these people, why not look into what it takes to be a good landlord?  This way you will know what it takes to be a success, and your road to making money will be much easier.

The first trait of a good landlord is honesty.  If you are going to be a landlord you need to be honest.  Many landlords think that they can get away with being dishonest and taking a few extra bucks here and there.  When it comes down to it you may be able to get away with this. But why would you want to? In most cases this will come back to bite you, and you will have to start over from the beginning. Don't let this happen to you.  If you deal honestly you will be ahead of the game from the start.

Another trait of a good landlord is organization.  Contrary to popular belief, if you are going to be a good landlord you will need to stay organized at all times.  This means that your paperwork should always be up to date, and that you should collect payment from your tenants when you are supposed to.  The biggest mistake that you can make as a landlord is letting things get out of control.  If you do this you will end up in a lot of trouble because you will be buried under a pile of papers.

Finally, a good landlord always keeps his word. If you tell your tenants that you are going to do something, you should by all means do so right away.  This way you will be seen as a good landlord by your tenants.  And when your tenants like you, your job will be much easier in the end.

All in all, it is not hard to be a good landlord.  As long as you put in the time to becoming a good landlord you should not have any problems.  Remember, being a good landlord will lead to your success and profits.

Tips:

  • The most effective landlords know their legal rights and comply with state and local landlord-tenant laws.
  • Avoid legal and discriminatory complaints by knowing your state and local landlord-tenant laws.
